Associate Director – Mechanical – Data Centres

We are working on behalf of a leading global MEP design consultancy to recruit an Associate Director – Mechanical. Our client operates internationally across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia, delivering high-quality mechanical design solutions across a wide range of complex building projects.
This is a senior leadership role for an experienced Mechanical Engineering professional who can combine technical excellence, people leadership and commercial awareness to support the continued growth and success of the business.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development, design and coordination of mechanical building services systems
- Manage and mentor mechanical engineering teams, supporting their technical and professional development
- Assist the Technical Director in delivering the business vision, values and strategic objectives
- Ensure projects are delivered in line with company standards, quality expectations and timelines
- Oversee mechanical calculations, specifications, schedules and design documentation
- Provide technical leadership and governance, ensuring “right first time” design delivery
- Identify and manage changes to scope, programme and cost in line with change control processes
- Support recruitment activities and team growth
- Conduct performance reviews and provide structured feedback to team members
- Actively contribute to technical excellence initiatives, innovation and continuous improvement
- Represent the business at client, consultant and contractor meetings
- Support work-winning activities and maintain strong client relationships
- Travel locally and internationally as required
Requirements
Technical Focus (Mechanical Only)
- HVAC system design and coordination
- Mechanical plant and equipment selection
- Mechanical calculations and analysis
- Interface coordination with other disciplines (PHE, Fire, Electrical)
- Compliance with international codes, standards and health & safety legislation
- Data Centre project experience is highly advantageous but not essential
Candidate Requirements
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (BSc / BEng / BTech or equivalent experience)
- Chartered Engineer status
- Significant experience in mechanical building services design
- Proven experience leading and managing mechanical design teams
- Experience delivering complex, multidisciplinary projects (international project experience desirable)
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, capital equipment and their applications
- Proficient with industry software such as HAP, Hevacomp, PipeFlo, IES, Navisworks, BIM 360 and MS Office
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Confident decision-maker with strong problem-solving abilities
